Sigrid Hjertén – En mästerlig kolorist

12 FEB - 26 AUG

Sigrid Hjärtén born in Sundsvall 1885 is today considered as one of Sweden's foremost and most popular artist within early modernism.  Sigrid pained home interiors, city views, still life and portraits,  at first in a decorative style which transformed into expressionism. Intensive, warm and cold colours were consciously mixed.

Hjärtén debut exhibition took place in 1912 together with the group "De 8" after studies in Paris under Henri Matisse. After that, over 100 exhibitions followed often together with her husband Isaac Grünewald.

Her life is mythical and she suffered from mental illness such as depression during parts of her adult life. In 1936 mental illness forced Sigrid to stop painting. Sigrid died in 1948.

Don't miss this chance to see Hjärtén's work from 1910s to 1930s when she is considered to have had her real break trough.
